About NAHFA

Independent by design,
not by accident.

NAHFA — the Nutrition and Health Food Association of Australia & New Zealand — reviews the published research behind supplements, foods, and nutrition claims, and tells you plainly how strong that evidence is.

Why we exist

Most nutrition content is paid for by someone with a product to sell

Search any supplement and the top results are written by the brands that make it, or by affiliates earning a commission on every bottle sold. NAHFA was set up to be the alternative: a reference that has no stake in which products you buy, only in whether the underlying research holds up. We're funded by members, not by the industry we evaluate, and we publish our methodology so you can check our working.

Editorial policy

How we grade evidence

Every supplement, ingredient, and health claim on NAHFA is assessed against the published research and assigned one of three grades. The grade describes the strength of the evidence only — not whether something is "good" or "bad". A Limited grade often means more research is needed, not that an ingredient doesn't work.

Strong

Multiple well-designed randomised controlled trials with consistent results across independent research groups.

Moderate

Some quality trial evidence exists, but results are mixed, sample sizes are small, or trial duration is short.

Limited

Mostly observational or preliminary data, animal studies, or a single small trial. Not yet conclusive either way.

Grades are reviewed and updated as new research is published. If you believe a grade is out of date, you can flag it from any supplement page — every flag is reviewed by our editorial team.

Funding & independence

What we don't do

No advertising

No banner ads, no display network, no sponsored placements anywhere on the site.

No industry sponsorship

No supplement or food company pays for, commissions, or previews content before publication.

No products sold

We don't manufacture, distribute, or sell supplements — so there's nothing to upsell you on.

Reviewer credentials published

Every grade is signed by the reviewer who assessed it, with their qualifications listed.

Reviewed by people who'll put their name on it
